Today's the Day!!

So that big Olympic back pack was NO GO for me. I tried it out last week and even without anything in it, it weighs about 3 lbs. I didn't have half the stuff in it that I will need every day and it was far too heavy. I really need to travel light!

Last night I went in search of an alternative and after hunting high and low, finally found the perfect bag. It's a small messenger bag with a uni-strap, which is the style I prefer. I think it measures about 15 inches square and has 3 zippered sections.

Of course there was a big maple leaf in the corner of the flap, which is both branding and our flag, so I had to find some way of covering it up. I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how I would do that without having to resort to covering it with sticky tape.

Finally I remembered I had a bunch of artsy merit badges from Artfest and I sewed one over top of the logo. There are just a few points that stick out, ever so slightly, so hopefully that will do. At least now I will know it's mine! No one else is going to have that on their bag! (Thanks Teesha!)

The compartments are pretty generous and I've already packed spare mitts, kleenex and my sun glasses clips.

And all the rest of the stuff I need. There's room enough if I have to take my jacket off, I can fold and roll it and it will fit. YAY!

This is a wee journal I made. I decided my good journal might get wet or lost, so I made this one to take with me. The covers are two Starbuck's cards.

It's got just enough pages that I have two per shift.

The first page of each day has the date and then I will hand write the day of the Olympics. (Day one, day two, etc.)

The pages are made from recycled security envelopes.

On the darker pages, I put labels, so I will be able to see what I've written. I will use this journal to make notes about my day and then later transfer it to my proper journal.
I am very excited! I am going to test the main skytrain route I need to be taking today. It's a bit of a long haul because there's some back tracking to get to the correct location, but hopefully it will give me an idea of how long it's going to take. I'll have to remember to time it!
I'd better go grab some breakfast!

Love your little journal - the Starbucks cover and your use of the security envelopes! I have built up quite a collection of envelopes in only a few weeks. Never paid any attention to them before Mary Ann's class!

My son lives in Vancouver and has Olympic fever also. Enjoy every minute - so exciting for you!

I am looking forward to following your blog, not only for the olympics but for your artwork. I love your little book. I have the RubiCoil too. I had thought about using my Bind it All machine too as I know it will go through fabric and lots of heavy stuff. Nanc

I love your wee journal. Inspiring, fun and so very cute. The security envelope pages look great in a small format and the cover-super cool........

How did you bind it with the rings along the edge? I saw above the mention of RubiCoil?

PS-I really enjoyed the first hand view of the Olympics, how exciting to be there.
Belated happy birthday. camille
