Playing Around!

Okay so this is the piece I just finished. Last week when I took the punch needle class, I knew I wanted something like this to be the end result.

It only took me about 3 hours to come up with this from start to finish. I work quickly because when I imagine something, I have all the details worked out in my head before I start-that's how my creative process works.

First I did a line drawing of the design I wanted to create. I measured carefully to make sure it was going to fit in the drawer. Then I did the punch needle work. After that, I made the loop and jumpring to hang the piece from and inserted them in the hole I drilled. I mounted the punch needle piece in the drawer part of a vintage copper coated steel ashtray which I got from Papier Valise and then searched my goodie drawer for PV ribbon I had been hoarding and the colour matched perfectly! Lastly, I added a star and moon charm Linda O'Brien gave me at Artfest, et voila!! I have myself a cool folky piece of jewellery!!

The only thing that bugs me is that the photo somehow picked up white around the edges of the piece, which is not visible to the naked eye. The camera sees things I don't! (Might just be due the angle I shot.)

Anyway, that's my little piece of artsy ingenuity for today!
