ATC Party!

So last week I shared with you that our ATC group was celebrating its 9th year and we were all making paper cake slice boxes and filling them with some sort of handmade gift inside, which we would trade when we got together.

For my gift, I made "Java Jackets", sleeves that slip around your paper coffee cup to keep you from burning your hand. They're just like the cardboard ones you usually get, but these are much greener, as you can reuse them and if they get dirty, you can wash them. I made them from some of my favourite fabric, which I have been hoarding for about 10 years.

Here are some of the cakes that were created:

This is a cake made from all the pieces I traded:

And here's a look at some of the goodies that were inside!

Isn't this hand knit talisman bag Joanne made just fabulous?

And last, but not least, the ATCs I made to swap. I had alot of fun making the backgrounds. I just took a piece of watercolour paper and started slapping paint on it and added lots of layers of textures, mediums and colours. When I was done, I just cut it into smaller pieces. I like making backgrounds this way because you never know what it's going to look like when it's finished and no two cuts are the same.

The hand stamp I used was carved by my friend Angela, who also carved the stamps that I got inside one of the cake boxes. (Pictured above-a lotus stamp and another hand image.)

Tonight I am off to have some much needed fun after last week's hospital marathon. My son and I are having a mother-son "date" and going to see Jann Arden in concert. We managed to score free tickets! I can't wait-Jann is hilarious and a fabulous artist and I am sure it will be a very good time!

Imagine - a cake that is as good for the soul as it is for the waistline! ;-)

Love it!

Yeegads we must have some bizarre brain connection or something! I just decided yesterday that I was going to make cup cozies which sound remarkably like your java jackets, as little Christmas gifts.

The cakes look fabulous! It's a great idea.

What an artfully creative group of women!! The cakes were each fabulous and when you put all of yours together it was like a cake mosaic!! Lovely goodies inside each one as well...and clever you with the re-usable cup holders!!

Enjoy the concert with your son..Jann is such a hoot -- a very funny lady and an amazing musician!
